This was a very special project for me. Ashley Marie Scott (featured in the painting) was beaten to death by her husband the night of Thanksgiving 2006. Reconciling violence with love is a choice women should never have to make. You're worth more than diamonds and empty promises.
As a survivor of domestic violence, it was very important for me to capture the joy that Ashley shared with her students in life. This piece was commissioned by a friend whose daughter was one of Ms. Scott's students. The profound affect this woman had on her is remarkable, despite her personal trauma, and is beyond measure. And so, in homage to to all the women that couldn't escape their abusers, this painting is tribute.
